some time, civil society Mirandinos senior, has been repeatedly calling attention to the Reservoir State Butterfly, since it is covered almost 70% of bora, an aquatic plant that grows under certain conditions. But this is only the visible part of a larger and more complex problem.

The hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is a common plant throughout tropical America, where it serves as food for many animals like the capybara and the dolphins, so that in no case is poisonous or harmful to health humans. However, to retain small particles of sand in their roots, long-term contribution to the process of sedimentation, silting and the final disappearance of water bodies but also is an indicator of eutrophication, ie water pollution.

In the case of La Mariposa, the enormous growth of this plant is mainly due to sewage contamination in the watershed of the reservoir, the drag of fertilizers used on nearby crops and the trash that surrounds Dam and falls largely in the trucks that carry trash Caracas Bonanza filling in the valleys of the Tuy.

Besides pollution, is the process of filling the reservoir suffering, especially after the numerous invasions in the Protected Zone of the reservoir, so that all these sediments fall to the basin of La Mariposa.

This process of sedimentation, among other problems, a rise in the background, thus falling an unusual amount of rain can overrun the levee and the water can flood the lower part constitutes the headwaters of the River Valley and that runs parallel to Avenida Los Heroes.

The ultimate solution is difficult to achieve and only possible long-term, controlling the runoff of wastewater into the reservoir, establishing a pipeline system and making wastewater treatment plants operate existing and new ones should be built.

the short term the only viable solution is dredging. For this should build a system for a few days the surface dredging, to remove the Bora, and other days the deeper dredging to remove sediment.

Prior to this, should be established to deposit the results of dredging. The sediment can be sent to any work that needs filling and hyacinth could be used to compost and organic fertilizer.
